Welcome to project 365. This writer of ghost stories, mother of two, and wife to the Professor, aka "Ghost Hunk" (for 18 years), finds inspiration everyday, even if she sometimes forgets. So for the next year, I will document these little epiphanies, whether it's a bug on the windshield or some brilliant, breathless moment in this crazy life or something in between.

Day 28

April 30th and the dog days have already arrived.  Our sweet little Whitman with his crooked leg...the dude has character!

Day 26

Well, we weathered the storms that blew through the Southeast.  They missed us, but my prayers are with so many families who have suffered tremendous loss this spring.  This tulip tree sits on the edge of the parking lot, and every now and then I just have to pull up and park right underneath it.  This photo was taken through my windshield.  Something about it just says "hope."

Day 25

From a most AWESOME writer friend, I received the perfect subject for today's post.  (Thank you GERI!) You will all be reading her fabulous work very soon.  All I can say is..."When can I move in?"

Day 24 — Sleeping Dogs

You know the old adage about letting sleeping dogs lie?  That includes tripping over them in the middle of the night as well.  Poor Ghost Son found that out last night.  Danté was dead to the world when Ghost Son got up off the couch to head to bed, lost his balance, and tumbled over to land right in Danté's face.  Let's just say the dog was terrified and did what came naturally.  Scared the crap out of the whole ghost family!  Kisses and apologies followed, not to mention as many jokes as we could come up with.

Day 23

No, we don't live here, but this little cream puff is right in downtown Albany, a few blocks from the hospital.  It has been on the market for at least two years.  I hope somebody nice buys it...

Day 22

The last egg.  As my good 35mm camera is down with a bug, I am at the mercy of my little FinePix 3.2 megapixel dinosaur to capture the most elusive egg in the hunt.  Ghost Daughter found it, though I'm sure my hovering nearby gave her a bit of a hint.  A lovely Easter Ham and a skype visit for Ghost Sister should make for a perfect afternoon.  Until the chocolate marshmallow coma sets in...

Day 21

Yes, we are in Bulldog country now!  Danté and I pass this little guy on our walk everyday.

Day 20

It's not even May yet and we have broken 90º already.  The army of sprinklers have been dispatched and this spotted oak tree is quenching its thirst in last of the evening sun.

Day 19

Of course Ghost Girl would be drawn to cemeteries of all types.  This little gem is located right on the edge of the ASU campus.  It is filled with meager slabs of concrete along with an occasional stone marker commemorating the poorer citizens of Albany's early years.  Some of the graves were washed away by a 500-year flood back in the 1990's, while a persistent few cling to the eroding side of a hill that looms over the creek below.  Still others stretch out into this small patch of woods where they enjoy the speckled shade of the magnolia trees and the oak trees dripping with Spanish moss.

Day 18

That's one chill rabbit!  Angel Jr. loves her litter pan...as a cool hangout.  She's taking in the evening breeze after a 90º day and some lap time with Ghost Daughter.

Day 15

Today's photo was selected by Ghost Son from the many taken at our jaunt to the annual Chehaw Native American Festival. The park was filled with the earthy tones of the Native American Flute and the primal pounding of the drums as we wandered through exhibits and craft booths, learning about the variety of tribal cultures from North and Central America.  A beautiful day for the family.

Day 13

Why bricks? I went to lunch with Ghost Hunk along the Flint River today, and had my choice of some lovely shots of the park complete with white trellises and vines and a view of the river behind it.  But something about those bricks just connected with me.  They seem to draw me into something more real than the asphalt and the painted iron fences that surround the park.  Less perfect than the trellis scene. They are more earth and old world.  Comforting. Reassuring.

Day 9

It may not be pretty, but soccer season has begun and so has the heat.  90º today, and the girls were pushing hard.  Go get 'em Ghost Daughter!

Day 8

Sunday Cuddle — These two finches are taking a little time out from the parenthood gig to chat and cuddle on their own.  I've counted at least 3 babies in the nest on our porch, which probably find their way here on the blog soon.

Day 4

Taken with my iPhone, the quality of this picture is not the best, but the quality of the sentiment is absolutely art.  Antonio LeRoy in the Academic Affairs department at ASU spent the day sweating over a hot barbeque to raise money for cancer research.  MMMmm...it was sooooo good! (And right outside my window...)

Day 3

While there was plenty of damage in surrounding areas, we were spared by last night's fireworks.  At 2:00 am, I was dragging Ghost Daughter and Ghost Son out of bed so they could hunker down with us in an interior room on the first floor in case the tornado that had been spotted should decide to take a bite out of our house.  Thankfully, it passed us by.  Ghost Daughter spent the rest of the night in bed with me, which meant Ghost Hunk slept on the couch and neither of us got much sleep.

But ASU awoke bright and cheerful.  This photo shows the little Southern oasis just across the parking lot from my building.  I parked my car, turned around, and just said, "Ahhhh..."

Day 2

A storm is a-brewin'.  As the news reports come in today, describing tornadoes and dangerous thunderstorms in the Southwest and moving east through Kentucky, we await the blustery night. The winds are already whipping up a good one, and the white cotton-candy clouds are running for their lives from the black wall that is heading this way.  Angel Jr. has come into the garage for safe-keeping (no more bunny funerals, thank you) and the lawn furniture has been tucked away.

This mama will be keeping a sharp eye out tonight, ready to herd the kids downstairs if the winds become truly dangerous.  And yes, those are stadium lights you see.  The high school is located just behind our house.  We can hear the "ping" of baseball practice even now...

Day 1 — Happy Anniversary...and a new start

I mark the first day of Project 365 with a simple photo of a chicken. Well...sort of a chicken. This little wooden hen watches over my herb garden, which keeps life in the South savory and sweet. Here she is peeking through my blossoming sage as Ghost Hunk and I start our 19th year together. Happy Anniversary, babe!
